What Do I Need to Begin Pilot Training?
Although no formal degrees, or further education is needed to begin your journey with Wings Airline Academy in the USA, all prospective pilots will need to meet certain criteria to begin studying.
You can find out more specifically what that means for each course in our courses section, but broadly speaking you will need to at least meet the following criteria:
- You must be at least 17 to begin studying, you may only take your flight test once you’re 18 years old.
- You must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.
- You must have at least graduated from high school or have a GED completer.
- The ability to obtain an FAA grade three medical certification.
What Do International Students Need For Pilot Training in the USA?
For any international student to enrol on one of our airline pilot courses in the USA, the following criteria must be met:
- You must be at least 18 years of age to take your flight test (17 to start study)
- You must be of good moral character, read, speak and write the English Language
- You must be able to obtain a FAA medical certification to verify that you are medically fit to fly.
- You must hold a valid passport with at least 6 months validity.
- You must apply for and receive a M1 Visa to allow you to study in the USA. (The I-20 is supplied to you from Wings Airline Academy)
How Do International Students Apply for a Visa?
At Wings Airline Academy, we issue the Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status, commonly known as Form I-20.
This document, regulated by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), gives the US government with vital details concerning the issuance of your M1 Visa.
Form I-20 plays a pivotal role in your Visa application process and must be accurately completed to demonstrate your commitment to being a dedicated and diligent full-time student during your flight training.
What is an I-20 Form?
Any international student requires an I-20 form to support the issue of an M1 Visa.

Where is Wings Air Academy Based?
Situated at Sebastian Airport in Florida, our flight school lies approximately sixty minutes south of Orlando.
We utilise a dedicated section within the airport’s Terminal Building, housing our contemporary classrooms and cutting-edge Flight Operations Division.
As the airport’s Fixed Base Operator (FBO), we manage over 23,500 square feet of hangars and classroom space.
Here we offer comprehensive training, including fuel supply, hangar rentals, flight training, and maintenance support.
